Though this blog is still being formed, one of the things I want to offer is family recipes - hopefully, most will be both healthy & kid-friendly, but also have a touch of hygge comfort. Here's the first. How did I do?
"There’s nothing more hygge than sitting round a table, discussing the big and small things in life. The Danish families create this coziness with mealtime almost every night. But it doesn’t just happen; they prioritize it. In the U.S., just hanging out together can feel like time wasted. In Denmark, it was the best time of the day." ~ How to Parent Like a Dane, Time.com
Hygge is a word that suggests everyday moments of coziness, comfort & bonded connection, with yourself in the form of self-care or with those who mean the most to you. And if you're a homeschooling mom, I know you care very much about the homeschooling experience you create for your children.
Paired together, hygge homeschooling is the practice of creating moments during your child's homeschooling day that are warm and cozy, that bring comfort, and that support or help generate closer connection. In my own experience, I have found that being grounded in hygge experiences is so calming that it makes the homeschooling process, the teaching & the learning, much easier.
Add in winter hibernation & you have a trifecta you can use to create what could become the best moments in your homeschooling year.
Stay tuned for my next post, where we take a look at hygge hibernation.
See you then!
"Hygge is much more than simply a warm, cozy physical space. Hygge is, perhaps more importantly, a safe psychological space you enter into with your loved ones. Lighting candles, shutting down your devices, telling feel-good stories, playing games, and adopting an overall positive attitude. Try taking a walk outside or sharing a cup of hot chocolate to talk about your family’s day. Your children will learn from your example and hygge becomes a legacy that gets passed on through generations." - Jessica Joelle Alexander
I'm beginning this blog to continue the conversation about hygge family time, hygge parenting and self-care for hygge moms. I agree with the author of the quote that your kids will learn from your example and anything you can teach them about hygge, family connectedness and self-care will follow them into future generations.
