In The Little Book of Hygge, the author mentions that while writing, he was asked if the experience of nostalgia is part of hygge. He admitted that a lot of his experience of reliving past hygge moments was indeed, nostalgia.
"Nostalgia produces positive feelings, reinforces our memories and sense of being loved, and boosts self-esteem. So while happiness and hygge are definitely about appreciating the now, both may also be planned & preserved. Hygge and happiness have a past and a future as well as a present." ~Meik Wiking

It surprises me that I still remember it all these years later, but I do. When I was about eight or nine years old, my family and several others in the neighborhood organized a families Christmas get-together. We went out caroling around the neighborhood & then, everyone came back to my house for a party.
Very casual. Christmas music playing in the background, our Christmas tree lights blinking, and some of my friends were there. My memory hones in on a moment when I was talking to a friend, drinking hot apple cider (I feel like it had cinnamon added) & eating donuts.
And for some reason, that is one of my favorite childhood Christmas memories.
Today, I drink apple cinnamon tea, eat apple cinnamon oatmeal and often burn both my apple cider and my cinnamon candles at the same time. Am I subconsciously re-creating that memory? I think that's possible.
What are your most nostalgic Christmas memories?
Practicing hygge, especially during the Christmas season, is likely both to remind you of old memories of warmth, safety, and connection & to make the new memories you create even more precious. Try weaving in the most familiar smells, textures & tastes to increase your hygge experience even more.
