Which Archetype are You? Overview of the 9 Archetypes

Though it happened almost 25 years ago, I can still remember the night I drove to an image consultant's store & tried on an outfit made entirely of knitwear. "I feel like I am wearing pajamas!" I told her. But I was wearing a pantsuit, with a knit blazer, top and pants.

That was a defining moment for me. Because I have been wearing knitwear, and only knitwear ever since! For a long time pajama comfort while looking stylish was all I asked of my clothes. Now I am asking a whole more.

I want my clothes to tell you a lot about who I am (that was my next-level request of my clothes.) But I also want them to nurture and comfort me, and to give me the emotional support I need on any given day.

Can clothes do that? I believe they can! So that's my mission.

And today, as I describe each of the nine archetypes in the Fantastical Beauty system, I also will give them the Comfort Fashionista analysis of how comfortable they are & I'll tell you what you might be able to get from them emotionally. Btw, I do believe that every type has a way to dress casually, but some can be comfy & casual in almost every outfit.

Picture

VALKYRIE: Are you familiar with the 70s character "Cleopatra Jones?" As a young girl, I admired how brave she was and how beautiful, and this archetype combines both beauty with a warrior spirit.

archetype keywords & emotional energy:
kick-ass courage & bravery
warrior energy
empowerment
confidence

comfort factor: If you're a jeans and sweater type of woman, this archetype will work for you. But prepare for boots & sharper jewelry.

FAE: Have you ever seen the movie "Elf?" I loved his outfits and I kinda thought Fae's would be the same but they are more ethereal than his. This archetype will enchant you.

archetype keywords & emotional energy:
playful and ethereal, innocent
lightness of being
enchantment

comfort factor: these fabrics are meant to be light and crisp. For me, that is not comfy enough for the average comfort fashionista but you may find it just the thing!

MAGIC QUEEN: I love the idea of being crowned "magical!" But I'd just as soon leave the ruling to someone else. The Magic Queen has magic at her disposal and is the consummate leader and ruler of her queendom. :)

archetype keywords & emotional energy:
leadership
magical
polished elegance

comfort factor: there's a subtype I will mention in another post that gets velvet, so I believe comfort is possible, but it isn't a priority for this type.

MAENAD: This is a "let your hair down" type if there ever was one. But it's letting your hair down because you've had a hard day & want to blow off some steam. It also can mean escaping your current reality by reading a good book or watching a good movie.

archetype keywords & emotional energy:
freedom
letting go of stress & worry
feeling more self-contained & less self-conscious
bohemian

comfort factor: this archetype is so open that within the recommendations, if comfort is what you want, it will be easy to create it.

NYMPH: I love the nurturing wisdom this archetype offers. It also gives some emphasis to connecting with nature, which is right up my alley. The type of nature that matters most of you may have impact on how you wear the recommended pieces for this type, but at its base, it is earthy.

archetype keywords & emotional energy:
protecting & nurturing others
feeling nurtured
being wise

comfort factor: this archetype can be very comfortable, and the subtypes offer even more comfort possibilities.

ANGEL: Although it broke my heart, the movie "city of Angels" (is that the title?) helped me solidify one thing I believe about angels, and that is that they are always among us but we can't see or hear them. Do you believe that?

Any breathing human could fall in love with Meg Ryan, but would an angel? I'm not so sure about that part. This idea of being an ever-present helper does show up in this archetype.

archetype keywords & emotional energy:
innocence
dreamer
being a guide
stillness and grace

comfort factor: Angel is not an archetype that brings comfort to mind. If you chose this type, but needed comfort, you'd need to find it in a subtype or another type as a secondary.

DRAGON PRINCESS: One thing you can say about this archetype is that this is where you'll find the bling! This is where you find effortless glamour.

It reminds me of nights when my babysitter was already there but my parents hadn't yet left for their elegant occasion.

I'd run back to their bedroom and see my mom all dressed up in a way that was unusual for her. Once I got older, she even let me put makeup on her. It was always exciting to see her so dressed up!

archetype keywords & emotional energy:
glamour & bling
lush
self-aware

comfort factor: there are ways to do a casual look that would bring comfort, but because of the glamour look required even with casual clothes, I wouldn't look here for comfort.

MERMAID: Have you ever seen a Mermaid? I know people who say they have! Or who say they have heard them singing. I would love that! Especially at night, as a kind of lullaby. In this archetype, the Mermaid is more likely to be singing to herself while doing something else that she is completely absorbed in doing. Some activity she loves and can kind if merge into o such a degree that she won't know you're there until you startle her by saying something.

archetype keywords & emotional energy:
playful & self-contained
do-it-yourself (or DIY)

comfort factor: I would look at the subtypes for comfort possibilities.

SEER: Even when you think you're alone, you aren't really. And help is closer than you know. That's the message of the Seer, who can provide a bridge for connection with those wanting messages from the Otherworld.

archetype keywords & emotional energy:
intuition, seeing things clearly, deep knowing
connecting easily to the Otherworld
being a connecting bridge for others

comfort factor: I think this archetype is an easier one for creating comfortable looks that still match the recommendations.

These descriptions are just a very brief overview of the types and I will describe each one much more thoroughly this month.

But does any of them sound like you, so far? Which one are you most interested in learning more about this month?

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

I never knew about this, and I find myself drawn to several of the archetypes, but the one I miss seeing is ... goofball. I readily admit I'm hopelessly lost when it comes to fashion sense. I'm hoping to do better ...

I love that, Billie!! Well, I am not sure the main 9 has a goofball, although Fae might be goofy and funny in a cute way at times, but I bet there are a couple of subtypes of other main ones that are. The one that immediately comes to mind is Imp, which is a subtype of the Magic Queen type. It isn't the one I picked to showcase when I get to the Magic Queen subtypes, but I will include a video that gives a summary for each subtype, so if you listen in, see what she says about Imp, in case it's a fit.

I never even thought about these things. So interesting. I love jeans, but not the stiff ones. And I like to look nice but not be uncomfortable. I hate not even being able to sit comfortably all day. I think you make it clear that comfort and style can go hand in hand.

I am with Billie - my type is more "Relaxed Tshirt and Jeans".

Seriously though, these types seem very feminine - are there other types for the males out there? Or, am I just judging too much?

Thanks.
Paul.

Paul, I am sorry for making them sound feminine! I didn't realize I was doing that. They really aren't. In fact, I really love one of the pinboards for the Nymph archetype that I think was created for a male client or with one in mind.

This is the link... https://www.pinterest.com/katilmoore/will-the-lady-fern-rain-nymph-nymph/

I think it includes the comfort of relaxed tees with jeans. :)

I would say be archetype is a Seer with a Valkyrie as a sub-type. In the fall and winter, I love my sweaters and jeans. :)

Jeanine, wow, so much to think about! One type sounded pretty familiar, but elements of other types did as well. Looking forward to reading more about this system. I do love color and texture, in addition to the cut of clothes. Thanks!

Such interesting descriptions. I really don't know. Maybe a cross between maenad and mermaid... or maybe something else???
